Sitz Bath for Hemorrhoids: Complete Relief Guide

By Abhinav Jain, Founder – The Heal Company

Heal Better. Feel Better

One of the most common reasons people buy a sitz bath tub is hemorrhoids, also called piles.

A person may be dealing with pain, burning, itching, swelling or discomfort after passing stool. Then the doctor says something very simple:

“Take a warm sitz bath.”

That sounds easy.

But then more questions come.

How warm should the water be?

How long should I sit?

How many times a day?

Will it actually help?

Can it cure hemorrhoids?

While working on healing products at The Heal Company and speaking with customers from Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow and many other cities, I noticed that these same questions come again and again.

So let me explain it in a simple way.

What Is a Sitz Bath?

A sitz bath is a shallow warm water bath used to soak the anal and surrounding area.

You do not need to sit inside a full bathtub.

A portable sitz bath tub can be placed over a western toilet seat. You fill it with warm water, sit comfortably and allow the affected area to soak.

People commonly use sitz baths for:

  • Piles or hemorrhoids
  • Anal fissures
  • Fistula recovery
  • Post-surgery care
  • Episiotomy stitches
  • After delivery recovery
  • Anal itching and irritation

For hemorrhoids, the main goal is simple.

Relief and comfort.

How Does a Sitz Bath Help Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the anus or inside the lower rectum.

When the area is swollen and irritated, even normal things like sitting or passing stool can become uncomfortable.

Warm water may help soothe the area and relax the muscles around the anus.

A sitz bath may help with:

  • Pain
  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Swelling
  • Cleaning after bowel movements
  • General discomfort

Think about how warm water feels when your muscles are tired.

It does not remove the cause of the problem, but it can make the area feel more relaxed.

That is how I like to explain a sitz bath.

Can a Sitz Bath Cure Hemorrhoids?

This is an important question.

No. A sitz bath should not be called a cure for hemorrhoids.

It can help manage discomfort.

For mild hemorrhoids, other changes like improving bowel habits, drinking enough water and eating more fibre may also help.

But if hemorrhoids are severe, bleeding often or becoming very painful, you may need medical treatment.

I don’t like exaggerated claims saying one product can “remove piles naturally.”

That is not how it works.

A sitz bath is supportive care.

What Water Temperature Should You Use?

The water should be:

Warm and comfortable.

Not very hot.

A useful range for many people is around:

37°C to 40°C

You don’t need a thermometer every time.

Place your hand in the water.

If you can comfortably keep your hand there, the temperature is usually fine.

If it feels too hot for your hand, it is probably too hot for sensitive skin.

Many people think hotter water will give more relief.

That is not true.

Very hot water can irritate the skin and make the area feel worse.

How Long Should You Take a Sitz Bath for Hemorrhoids?

For most people:

10 to 20 minutes per session

works well.

Personally, I feel around 15 minutes is a very practical starting point.

You don’t need to sit for 30 or 40 minutes hoping that more time will give more relief.

Warm water needs some time to soothe the area, but longer is not always better.

Comfort should guide you.

How Often Should You Use a Sitz Bath?

Many people with hemorrhoids use a sitz bath:

2 to 3 times daily

Some also use it after passing stool.

For example:

Morning – 10 to 15 minutes

After bowel movement – if needed

Evening – 10 to 15 minutes

Your doctor may recommend a different schedule depending on your condition.

If you have recently undergone surgery, follow your surgeon’s instructions instead of following a general routine.

Sitz Bath After Passing Stool

This is one use that many customers find practical.

Hemorrhoids can make wiping uncomfortable.

Repeated rubbing with toilet paper may make an already irritated area feel worse.

A warm sitz bath can help gently clean the area without aggressive rubbing.

After finishing your sitz bath, gently pat the area dry.

Do not rub it hard.

Plain Water or Should You Add Something?

I prefer keeping things simple.

For most people:

Plain warm water is enough.

Some people immediately think about adding:

  • Dettol
  • Salt
  • Antiseptic liquid
  • Soap
  • Essential oils

Don’t add these automatically.

Sensitive skin around hemorrhoids may get irritated.

If your doctor has prescribed something specifically for the water, then follow that advice.

Otherwise, warm water itself is the main part of a sitz bath.

What Else Should You Do for Hemorrhoids?

This is where many people make a mistake.

They focus only on treating the discomfort but continue doing the same thing that may be making the problem worse.

If you are constipated and straining hard every day, taking a sitz bath alone will not solve that.

Try to keep stools softer.

Drink enough water.

Eat foods containing fibre such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Avoid sitting on the toilet for a long time.

Don’t keep pushing and straining when stool is not coming.

These simple habits can matter a lot.

The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual

At The Heal Company, we wanted to make taking a sitz bath at home easy.

That is why we developed The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.

The tub is designed for adults and can be placed over most western toilet seats.

Features include:

  • Adult-size seating area
  • Strong plastic body
  • Easy-to-clean design
  • Fountain nozzle system
  • Manual air pump
  • Comfortable daily use

The Manual Version costs ₹499.

You fill the tub with comfortably warm water and use the manual pump when you want water flow through the nozzle.

For many people, this version is simple and enough for daily use.

The Heal Company Automatic Sitz Bath Tub

We also developed an Automatic Version priced at ₹899.

The basic tub remains the same, but instead of manually pressing an air pump, the automatic version uses a small motor for water flow.

This may be useful for people who prefer continuous water movement rather than manually operating the pump.

The motor runs on low-voltage DC power and should always be used according to the instructions provided with the product.

Keep the motor unit dry.

Do not immerse it in water.

Use only the supplied adaptor.

Manual or Automatic – Which One Should You Buy?

I don’t think everyone needs the expensive version.

If you want a simple sitz bath tub with manual water flow:

Choose the Manual Version – ₹499

If you prefer continuous powered water movement:

Choose the Automatic Version – ₹899

The basic purpose remains the same.

Warm water care.

Choose based on convenience, not because one version is automatically “better” for hemorrhoids.

Why Consistency Matters

One thing I have noticed while speaking with customers across India is that some people want instant results.

They use a sitz bath once and ask:

“Why am I not completely fine?”

Healing usually does not work like that.

A sitz bath is a comfort routine.

Using it regularly according to your doctor’s advice may be more useful than doing one very long session.

Small steps repeated every day often make more sense than trying something extreme for one day.

When Should You See a Doctor?

Please don’t assume every anal problem is hemorrhoids.

Talk to a healthcare professional if you have:

  • Heavy or repeated bleeding
  • Severe pain
  • Fever
  • Increasing swelling
  • A very painful lump
  • Symptoms that keep getting worse
  • Symptoms that are not improving

Blood during bowel movements should especially not be ignored if you have not already been diagnosed with hemorrhoids.

A sitz bath can support comfort.

It should not delay medical care.

My Opinion

If someone asks me:

“Should I use a sitz bath for hemorrhoids?”

My answer is usually:

If your doctor has suggested one, or you are using it for general hemorrhoid comfort, it is one of the simplest home-care routines you can try.

Use comfortably warm water.

Sit for around 10 to 20 minutes.

Keep the tub clean.

Don’t make the water too hot.

And don’t expect a sitz bath alone to cure hemorrhoids.

Simple.
