Heal Better. Feel Better
A Bartholin cyst can be a very uncomfortable problem. You may notice a small lump near the vaginal opening, pain while sitting or walking, or swelling on one side.
One question we hear often is simple:
“Can I use a sitz bath for a Bartholin cyst?”
A warm sitz bath may help with comfort and may help a small Bartholin cyst drain naturally. But it does not mean every cyst can be treated at home. A large, very painful or infected cyst may need treatment from a doctor.
At The Heal Company, we believe home-care products should make simple care easier, not replace proper medical treatment.
Heal Better. Feel Better.
What Is a Bartholin Cyst?
The Bartholin glands are two small glands found on either side of the vaginal opening. They make fluid that helps with lubrication.
Sometimes the opening of one of these glands gets blocked. Fluid then collects inside and forms a cyst.
A small cyst may cause little or no pain. But if bacteria get into the cyst, it can become infected and form an abscess. This can cause more swelling, pain, redness and sometimes fever.
If you have a new lump in this area and you are not sure what it is, getting medical advice is a good idea.
How Can a Sitz Bath Help?
A sitz bath is a warm-water bath where only the lower part of the body is soaked.
Warm water can soothe the area and may make sitting and moving more comfortable. Medical sources such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and the NHS list warm sitz baths as a home-care option for some Bartholin cysts.
For a small cyst, regular warm-water soaking may also help it open and drain naturally.
But there is an important difference between helping a cyst drain and treating an infection.
If the cyst has become a painful abscess, a healthcare professional may need to drain it or provide other treatment.
So, my advice is simple: use a sitz bath as supportive home care, but don’t use it as a reason to delay medical treatment when symptoms are getting worse.

How to Take a Sitz Bath for a Bartholin Cyst
If a sitz bath is suitable for you, the process is quite simple.
1. Use warm water
The water should be comfortably warm, not very hot.
Water that is too hot can burn sensitive skin. Cleveland Clinic gives around 40°C as an average sitz bath temperature, while also advising that the water should feel comfortable.
2. Soak the affected area
The water should cover the perineal area.
You don’t need to fill a whole bathtub. A dedicated sitz bath tub can make this easier.
3. Sit for around 15–20 minutes
A 15–20 minute soak is commonly used for sitz baths. Your doctor may suggest a different routine depending on your condition.
4. Dry gently
After the bath, gently pat the area dry with a clean towel.
Don’t rub the area hard.
5. Keep the tub clean
Wash the tub after every use and allow it to dry properly before storing it.
How Often Can You Take a Sitz Bath?
For a Bartholin cyst, medical guidance may suggest warm baths several times a day for a few days. The NHS and Mayo Clinic both mention warm baths as part of home care for a Bartholin cyst.
Your exact routine can depend on your symptoms and what your healthcare professional recommends.
If soaking makes the area more painful or irritated, stop and seek medical advice.
More baths are not always better. The aim is gentle warm-water care.
Do Not Squeeze or Pop a Bartholin Cyst
This is one thing I would strongly tell anyone dealing with this problem.
Do not try to squeeze, puncture or cut the cyst yourself.
It may be tempting when there is pressure or swelling. But trying to drain it yourself can cause injury and may spread infection.
If the cyst opens naturally during warm-water care, keep the area clean and speak with your healthcare professional if you are worried about the drainage or symptoms.
When Should You See a Doctor?
A sitz bath may be useful for a small cyst, but there are times when home care is not enough.
Get medical advice if:
- The pain is severe.
- The lump is getting bigger.
- You have fever or chills.
- The area becomes very red or swollen.
- You have trouble sitting or walking.
- The pain is getting worse.
- The cyst does not improve after a few days.
- The problem keeps coming back.
Mayo Clinic advises medical evaluation when a painful Bartholin cyst does not improve after two or three days of self-care, or sooner when pain is severe.
If you are over 40 and develop a new lump in this area, medical evaluation is also recommended because other conditions may need to be ruled out.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual
I am Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company, along with Deepika Jain.
When we started working on home-use healing products, we noticed something very simple.
Many forms of warm-water care are easy to understand, but doing them every day can be inconvenient.
A full bathtub takes a lot of water. It also takes time to fill, clean and use.
That is one reason we developed The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.
It is a dedicated sitz bath tub designed for warm-water soaking at home.
The Manual Version costs ₹499.
You simply add warm water manually and use the tub as directed.
Our customers use the product in Delhi and other parts of India, including cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and many smaller towns.
The product is designed to make a simple home-care routine easier.
It is not designed to replace a doctor.
The Heal Company Automatic Version
We also have an Automatic Version priced at ₹899.
The tub is based on the same sitz bath concept, but the automatic version has a small motor system to help move the water.
The motor unit needs to be kept dry and should never be immersed in water. Users should follow the instructions supplied with the product and use the supplied adaptor.
For someone who wants a little more convenience during their sitz bath routine, this can be a useful option.
Why We Made a Sitz Bath Tub
As founders, our thinking has always been quite simple.
If something can help make home care easier, the product should be easy to understand and easy to use.
A sitz bath does not need to be complicated.
Warm water. A clean tub. A few minutes of quiet care.
That is the basic idea behind our product.
We don’t claim that a sitz bath tub can cure a Bartholin cyst. We also don’t want someone with a serious infection to delay medical care because they bought a home-care product.
Our job is to make the home-care part easier.

Bartholin Cyst and Sitz Bath: What Should You Remember?
If you have a small Bartholin cyst, a warm sitz bath may:
- Soothe discomfort
- Keep the area gently soaked
- Help a small cyst drain naturally
- Make sitting more comfortable
But it may not be enough when there is a large or infected cyst.
If you have severe pain, increasing swelling, fever or symptoms that are not improving, please speak with a healthcare professional.
