Heal Better. Feel Better
When a small child is uncomfortable, parents naturally want something simple that can make them feel better.
A parent once asked us a very sensible question about our sitz bath: “Can I use this for my child?”
I am Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company, along with Deepika Jain. We are a Delhi-based brand, and my answer to parents is a little different from what I would tell an adult.
A warm shallow bath can be useful for children in some situations. For example, pediatric medical guidance says warm baths can soothe the area when a child has an anal fissure, and sitz baths are also prescribed for certain other pediatric conditions.
But a baby or young child needs close adult supervision, and a sitz bath should not be treated as a cure.
Can Children Take a Sitz Bath?
Yes, a healthcare professional may recommend a warm shallow bath or sitz bath for some children.
One example is an anal fissure.
An anal fissure is a small tear around the anus. Children can get them, and constipation is a common cause. Hard, dry stool stretches the delicate tissue and may cause a tear.
A child may then have pain while passing stool and sometimes a small amount of bright-red blood.
Warm bathing can soothe the area while it heals.
But treating the constipation itself matters too. A bath may make your child more comfortable, but it doesn’t fix the hard stool that caused the problem.
What About Babies?
With babies, I would be more careful.
Do not simply place a baby in an adult toilet-mounted sitz bath because the product physically fits on a toilet.
Babies need bathing arrangements suitable for their age and size. Pediatric bathing guidance recommends a proper baby bath setup and says an adult should never take their hands off a baby or walk away, even for a moment.
For a newborn or infant, speak with the child’s pediatrician before trying a sitz bath for a medical problem.
This is especially true if there is a wound, bleeding, infection, recent procedure or unexplained rash.

When Can a Sitz Bath Help a Child?
One common reason is discomfort from an anal fissure.
Warm water may soothe the painful area. But pediatric guidance says the main treatment goal is keeping stools soft and regular. Fluids, a balanced diet and, when prescribed, medicines such as laxatives may form part of the treatment.
Another pediatric example is urethral prolapse in girls. In that particular condition, pediatric specialists may recommend a warm, shallow sitz bath twice daily for around 15–20 minutes to keep the area clean and support healing.
That doesn’t mean every child needs to sit for 15–20 minutes.
The condition matters. The child’s age matters. The doctor’s advice matters.
Sitz Bath and Constipation in Children
Parents sometimes think a sitz bath will cure constipation.
It won’t.
Constipation is common in childhood, especially around toilet-training age. Children may pass hard stool, strain or experience pain while passing stool.
A painful bowel movement can create a difficult cycle.
The child passes hard stool.
It hurts.
The child becomes scared of passing stool.
They try to hold it.
The constipation can then become worse.
A warm bath may soothe soreness associated with a fissure, but constipation itself may need changes to fluids and food or treatment recommended by a pediatrician.
This distinction matters alot.
How Warm Should the Water Be?
For children, never use very hot water.
The water should feel comfortably warm, not hot.
Pediatric bathing guidance recommends checking bath temperature and keeping a hand on a baby throughout bathing.
I would never judge the temperature just because it feels okay to an adult hand. Children’s skin is more delicate.
And dont keep adding hotter water while the child is sitting in the bath.
Should You Add Salt, Baking Soda or Medicine?
Not automatically.
This is another place where parents can get confused after reading different things online.
For a child’s sitz bath, I would start from a very simple position:
Use plain warm water unless the child’s healthcare professional has told you to add something.
Don’t randomly add Epsom salt, baking soda, antiseptic, essential oils, herbal mixtures or medicine because somebody online recommended it.
A treatment prescribed for one condition may not be right for another.
Adult Supervision Is Non-Negotiable
This is probably the biggest point in this whole guide.
Never leave a baby or young child alone during any bath, including a sitz bath.
Not for one minute.
Not while you answer your phone.
Not while you go into another room to bring a towel.
Pediatric bathing guidance specifically warns caregivers never to take their hands off a baby or walk away even briefly.
Prepare everything before you start.
Keep the towel, clean clothes and anything else you need within reach.
For older children, supervision should still match their age, ability and the product being used.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual and Children
Our The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual is designed to sit on a compatible Western toilet.
It has a white basin with a manually operated hand pump and pipe system.
Manual Version: ₹499
We also offer:
Automatic Version: ₹999
The Automatic version provides powered water movement.
For an adult, these features can make taking a sitz bath more convenient. But when it comes to children, age, body size and safe seating matter more than the product features.
I would not market our toilet-mounted tub as something that every baby should use.
For babies and very small children, ask their pediatrician what bathing setup is appropriate. For an older child whose doctor has recommended a sitz bath, the parent should check that the child can sit securely and comfortably and follow the healthcare professional’s instructions.
What About the Manual Pump?
If an older child is using The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual under adult supervision, there is no need to make the water flow forcefully.
The purpose isn’t to blast water against sore skin.
Keep everything gentle.
And if the doctor has simply asked for a warm shallow soak, you dont need to turn the pump into the main part of the treatment.
The warm water itself may be what the healthcare professional wants.
After Surgery, Follow the Surgeon’s Instructions
If your child has recently had surgery, don’t start a sitz bath just because it helped somebody else’s child.
Pediatric post-surgery guidance tells parents to understand when their child may bathe, what treatments are needed at home and what warning signs to watch for before leaving hospital.
Your child’s surgeon may want a particular type of wound care.
Follow those instructions first.

When Should Parents Speak to a Doctor?
If your child has ongoing pain, repeated bleeding, worsening symptoms or you dont know what is causing the problem, get medical advice rather than trying to diagnose it at home.
For anal fissures specifically, NHS guidance says a child should be seen if symptoms are getting worse or haven’t improved after seven days of home treatment.
If constipation is the problem, getting help early can also matter because childhood constipation can become harder to manage the longer it continues.
Parents in Delhi can use established pediatric services such as those available through government hospitals. For example, the Delhi government’s Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital lists pediatric OPD, emergency and inpatient services among its current pediatric facilities.
My Advice to Parents
Whether a family is in Rohini in Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Kolkata, my advice stays simple.
Dont make a child’s sitz bath complicated.
Use comfortably warm water.
Keep the tub clean.
Never leave a young child unattended.
Don’t add random ingredients.
And remember that a sitz bath may provide comfort for certain problems, but it doesn’t replace treatment for constipation, infection, wounds or another medical condition.
That is the difference between using a home-care product sensibly and expecting the product to do the doctor’s job.
