Heal Better. Feel Better
You applied piles cream in the morning. By afternoon, the itching was back.
So you applied it again.
Now somebody has suggested sitting in warm water for 15 minutes. And you are thinking, why should I do that when I am already using medicine?
This is a question worth asking. Because a piles cream and a sitz bath are not doing the same job.
I am Abhinav Jain, co-founder of The Heal Company, a Delhi-based brand started by me and Deepika Jain. We design products that help people manage discomfort at home, without making everyday care difficult.
Today I want to talk about something simple. Can you use a sitz bath and medicated cream together? And does it actually help?
First, What Is Your Cream Doing?
Not every piles cream works the same way.
Some creams contain ingredients that numb the area for a short time. Others help with itching or swelling. Some just form a protective layer over irritated skin.
A cream may make you feel better. But that doesn’t mean it has fixed the reason your piles started.
Say you live in Andheri, Mumbai. You spend the whole day sitting at work. You come home, use your piles cream, and feel some relief.
Next morning, you have hard stool again. You push hard in the toilet.
The pain comes back.
The cream didn’t necessarily fail. The pressure and irritation are still there.
This is why I feel people should not depend on a cream alone while ignoring constipation and toilet habits.
Also, please check what medicine your cream contains. Hydrocortisone products for piles are generally meant for short-term use, often no longer than seven days unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Using more cream doesn’t always mean more relief.
What Does a Sitz Bath Actually Do?
A sitz bath means soaking the area around your anus in comfortably warm water.
That’s all.
No special medicine is needed in the water.
The warmth may help relax the muscles around your bottom and soothe soreness or itching. Many people use sitz baths after passing stool because that is when the area may feel most uncomfortable.
Now, I want to be clear about one thing.
A sitz bath does not remove piles.
It is a way to manage discomfort. It may make sitting, cleaning the area, or going through your day a little easier.
For me, that is a good enough reason to talk about it. Not every helpful product needs to promise a cure.

Sitz Bath vs. Medicated Cream: Which One Should You Use?
I don’t see this as a competition.
A cream may help with a specific symptom because of the medicine it contains.
A sitz bath may soothe the area with warm water.
So the better question is not which one wins.
The question is, what kind of discomfort are you having?
| Your problem | What may help |
|---|---|
| Itching around the anus | A suitable cream and gentle cleaning |
| Soreness after passing stool | Warm sitz bath |
| Pain or swelling | Medical advice, with suitable symptom relief |
| Hard stool and straining | Fibre, fluids and better toilet habits |
| Bleeding | Medical evaluation rather than self-treatment alone |
Sometimes a doctor may suggest both a sitz bath and a medicated cream.
That is fine when the cream is suitable for your condition.
But using both doesn’t mean your piles will disappear faster. There is no good evidence that the combination guarantees faster healing.
How to Use a Sitz Bath and Cream Together
Suppose your doctor has recommended a piles cream and you also want to use warm-water soaking.
Here is a simple way to do it.
Step 1: Start with clean, warm water.
The water should feel comfortable on your skin. Not hot.
Step 2: Sit for around 10 to 15 minutes.
You don’t need to stay there for half an hour. Follow your doctor’s advice if they have given you a different time.
Step 3: Dry the area gently.
Use a clean, soft towel. Pat the skin dry. Don’t rub it.
Step 4: Apply your cream as directed.
Use the amount written on the label or prescribed by your doctor.
One more thing. Please don’t squeeze piles cream into your sitz bath water.
I would also avoid adding soap, essential oils or antiseptic liquids unless a healthcare professional specifically recommends them.
Plain warm water is usually enough.
Why We Designed The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual
Let me share my thinking behind our product.
When we were working on The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual, I kept coming back to one practical problem.
How will someone actually take a sitz bath at home?
In many homes across Delhi, Jaipur, Pune and Bengaluru, people have a Western toilet but no bathtub.
And filling a large bucket or arranging a separate tub every day is not something everyone wants to do.
So we focused on a design that can sit over a compatible Western toilet.
Our Manual Sitz Bath Tub has a wide seat, a deep bowl and a hand-operated water pump.
The grey hand pump connects through a grey pipe to a nozzle inside the tub. When you squeeze the pump, water flows through the nozzle.
There is no motor or electricity involved.
The price is ₹499.
I like the manual version because it is simple. You control the pump yourself. And when you are done, you can empty, clean and store the tub.
Before ordering, do check that the tub will fit your toilet properly. Western toilet seats come in different shapes and sizes.
What About the Automatic Sitz Bath Tub?
We also have The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Automatic, priced at ₹999.
This version uses a small motor to move the water, so you don’t need to keep squeezing a hand pump.
It comes with the tub, motor unit, connected pipes and nozzles, adaptor, storage bag and instruction manual.
The motor and adaptor must be kept dry, and the product should be used only as instructed.
Which one would I choose?
If you prefer a simple product without electricity, I would suggest looking at the Manual version.
If you want powered water movement, you may prefer the Automatic one.
Both are made for warm-water sitz bath use. The Automatic version should not be seen as medically more effective just because it costs more.

The One Thing I Wish More People Would Change
If you have piles, please pay attention to how you pass stool.
I say this because you can spend money on creams, tubs and other products, but if you are pushing hard every morning, the irritation may keep coming back.
Think of somebody living in Model Colony, Pune, who has to rush to work every day.
They ignore the urge to use the toilet. They don’t drink enough water. And later, when they finally go, the stool is hard.
A sitz bath may soothe the soreness afterwards.
But the next day, the same thing happens.
That is why softer stools matter.
Eat foods with fibre. Drink enough water. Move your body. Don’t strain or sit on the toilet longer than needed.
If constipation continues, speak to a healthcare professional about treatment.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for piles has nothing to do with applying something to the painful area.
When Should You Stop Home Treatment and See a Doctor?
Please don’t assume every pain or bleeding problem near the anus is piles.
Anal fissures and other conditions can cause similar symptoms.
Get medical advice if you notice bleeding, have severe pain, develop fever, or have a painful lump that appears suddenly.
And if your symptoms aren’t improving after about a week of home care, get checked.
A sitz bath is supportive care. A medicated cream is symptom treatment. Neither replaces a proper diagnosis.
For more information, you can read the NHS guide to piles and the NIDDK guide to hemorrhoids.
So, Can You Use Both?
Yes, in many cases you can use a sitz bath alongside a suitable medicated cream.
I would take the warm sitz bath first, gently dry the area and then apply the cream according to its instructions, unless your doctor has advised another routine.
But please don’t keep changing creams or using them for weeks without checking what is inside.
And don’t forget the basics. Softer stools and less straining can make a big difference.
At The Heal Company, our aim is not to tell people to stop taking medicines. We want to make simple home care easier while people follow the treatment they need.
If you are thinking about buying a sitz bath tub and have questions about the Manual or Automatic version, you can speak to us directly.
If you call, one of us — Abhinav Jain or Deepika Jain — will pick up your call. So feel free to ask your questions before ordering.
