Heal Better. Feel Better
One thing I have noticed while speaking with people looking for a sitz bath is that many of them are not actually suffering from piles or fissures.
Sometimes the problem is a pilonidal cyst.
A painful lump near the tailbone can make something as normal as sitting on a chair feel difficult. People working long hours at desks in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad or Pune may notice the pain even more because they spend so much of their day sitting.
Then comes the common question:
“Will a sitz bath heal my pilonidal cyst?”
My answer is — dont look at a sitz bath as a cure for a pilonidal cyst.
Warm-water care may help with comfort and keeping the area clean, but an infected pilonidal cyst can need medical treatment, including drainage in some cases. Public health guidance says a painful and swollen pilonidal abscess usually needs medical treatment.
So lets understand where a sitz bath may fit into your care.
What Is a Pilonidal Cyst?
A pilonidal cyst develops in the crease between the buttocks, usually near the tailbone.
It may contain fluid or hair and can become infected. When infection happens, you may notice pain, redness, swelling or drainage. Sitting can become very uncomfortable.
People who sit for long periods can be more likely to develop this problem. Ingrown hair is also thought to play a role.
This means someone sitting at a computer all day in Noida can face it, but so can a driver in Jaipur, a student in Chennai or someone working from home in Kolkata.
It isn’t only an “office worker problem.”
Can a Sitz Bath Help a Pilonidal Cyst?
This part needs to be explained carefully.
There is medical guidance supporting warm compresses for soothing pain from a pilonidal cyst, and public-health guidance says keeping the area clean through regular bathing or showering is important.
A sitz bath is another way of soaking the lower body area in warm water. General medical guidance describes it as a shallow warm-water bath that can help with discomfort around the perineal area.
But this does not mean a sitz bath will remove the cyst.
That difference is very important.
I would use the words supportive care, not cure.
What About Pain Relief?
Warm water can feel soothing when skin around the area is tender.
General sitz-bath guidance recommends comfortably warm water rather than very hot water and commonly suggests soaking for around 15 to 20 minutes.
But a pilonidal cyst sits higher near the tailbone than conditions such as piles or anal fissures. Depending on its exact position, a toilet sitz bath may not fully immerse the cyst itself.
That is something many product pages dont explain.
If your doctor recommends warm soaking, ask whether a toilet sitz bath is suitable for the location of your cyst. A warm compress or normal bath may sometimes make more sense.
I would rather explain this clearly than make a bigger claim just to sell a tub.

Keeping the Area Clean Matters
If you have a pilonidal sinus without infection, public-health guidance recommends keeping the area between the buttocks clean through regular showering or bathing.
After washing, gently dry the area.
Dont aggressively rub painful skin.
And dont start shaving the affected area simply because you read online that hair causes pilonidal disease. Current guidance specifically says not to shave an affected pilonidal area unless your doctor advises you to do so.
That is another reason why internet home remedies need a little caution.
Please Dont Try to Drain It Yourself
A painful lump can make people want to press it, squeeze it or somehow get the fluid out.
Please dont do that.
If you develop a painful, swollen pilonidal abscess, it may need to be medically opened and drained. Antibiotics may also be needed in some cases.
This isn’t something a sitz bath can replace.
If you have increasing pain, redness, swelling, pus or blood coming from the area, or you feel feverish or unwell, get medical help.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual
At The Heal Company, Deepika and I designed our sitz bath products around a very simple problem.
Taking a warm-water soak shouldn’t need a full bathtub.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual is designed to sit on a compatible Western toilet. You add warm water and use the tub while sitting.
Our Manual Version costs Rs 499.
We also make The Heal Company Automatic Sitz Bath Tub, priced at Rs 899.
For piles, fissures and some types of perineal care, a toilet sitz bath can make warm-water soaking much easier.
For a pilonidal cyst, I would first ask your doctor if this style of sitz bath will actually reach the affected area. Pilonidal disease usually occurs higher in the crease near the tailbone.
Our aim is not to tell every person that one product fits every problem.
How to Use a Sitz Bath Safely
If your doctor has advised sitz bathing, keep it simple.
Use comfortably warm water. General sitz-bath guidance puts an average warm-water temperature around 40°C and recommends avoiding water hot enough to burn your skin.
Plain warm water is normally enough for a general sitz bath. Dont automatically add salts, oils or other substances. Some products can irritate the skin, and anything added for a medical condition should follow your healthcare provider’s advice.
After use, gently pat yourself dry.
Also wash and dry the sitz bath tub properly before storing it.
Sitting All Day? Give the Area a Break
Long periods of sitting are linked with pilonidal disease and can make an existing painful cyst feel worse.
If your work allows it, get up regularly rather than sitting continuously for hours.
This can matter for someone driving long distances just as much as someone working on a laptop.
Your doctor may also advise you about wound care, hair management or other ways of reducing the chance of the problem returning.
Follow those instructions rather than trying random methods from social media.
When Warm Water Is Not Enough
This may be the most useful part of this article.
If a pilonidal cyst becomes painful, swollen, red, bleeding or starts leaking pus, dont keep taking warm baths and waiting.
An infected pilonidal sinus needs medical attention. A painful abscess commonly needs to be drained, and some people may need antibiotics. Repeated pilonidal disease can sometimes need surgery.
Warm water can support comfort.
It cannot drain an abscess safely for you or treat a serious infection.

Why We Keep Our Advice Simple
When Deepika and I started The Heal Company, our idea was to make products that can support simple care at home.
But healing without medicines does not mean avoiding medicines, doctors or surgery when they are actually needed.
I feel that difference needs to be clear.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual is a device for warm-water sitz bathing. It can make the process easier when sitz bathing has been recommended for your condition.
It is not a treatment that guarantees a pilonidal cyst will disappear.
