Difference Between Sitz Bath vs Hip Bath

Heal Better. Feel Better

Hi, I’m Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company, Delhi. I talk to people daily who are confused about one thing… “sitz bath and hip bath same hai kya?”

Short answer… no, not same.
Long answer… let me explain like I explain to a friend.

A Small Story From Delhi

Last year one customer from Lajpat Nagar called me. He had piles pain, doctor told him to take sitz bath. But he started using a big tub, like half body soak. He said “not helping much”.

Later we found… he was actually doing hip bath, not sitz bath.

After he switched to proper sitz bath using The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual, pain reduced in few days.

So yeah… difference matters.

What is a Sitz Bath?

Sitz bath means… you only soak your bottom area. Not full body. Just that part.

You sit on a small tub which fits on your commode. Warm water touches only the anal area.

People use it for:

  • piles
  • fissure
  • after delivery
  • after piles surgery
  • itching or swelling

Water stays focused on one area. That is why relief comes faster.

Simple thing… small area, direct effect.

What is a Hip Bath?

Hip bath is bigger. You sit in a tub or bucket or big basin. Water covers hips and sometimes lower stomach also.

It is used for:

  • general pelvic pain
  • some naturopathy treatments
  • cooling or heating therapy
  • digestion related issues sometimes

Here water spreads more. Not focused only on piles area.

My opinion?
If you are dealing with piles or pain… sitz bath is more practical.

Why Sitz Bath Works Better for Piles

I have seen this again and again with customers from Mumbai, Jaipur, even small towns like Hisar.

When warm water hits directly:

  • muscles relax
  • blood flow improves
  • swelling goes down
  • pain reduce fast

Hip bath also helps… but effect is diluted.

Like pouring water everywhere vs putting water exactly where needed.

What Doctors Usually Recommend

Most doctors in India say:
“Take sitz bath 10–15 minutes, 2–3 times daily.”

Rarely they say hip bath for piles.

So if doctor said sitz bath… don’t change it to hip bath thinking same thing. It’s not.

Where The Problem Happens

Many people try jugaad:

  • using bucket
  • using big plastic tub
  • using random bathroom setup

Issue is:

  • posture wrong
  • water not reaching properly
  • time waste

This is why we designed The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.

About The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual

We made this after talking to real users. Not guessing.

Features:

  • fits normal Indian commode
  • comfortable sitting shape
  • gentle water flow with pump
  • easy to clean
  • no complicated setup

You just place it, fill water, sit. Done.

Many users from Gurgaon, Noida, Pune tell us same thing…
“simple hai, daily use ho jata hai”.

And that matters. Healing happens when you actually use it daily.

My Honest Opinion

If your goal is:

  • piles relief
  • after surgery care
  • pain reduction

Then sitz bath is better choice.

Hip bath is not wrong. But it’s not targeted.

Simple logic…
Focused treatment works faster.

Common Mistakes I See

  1. Using very hot water
    → it irritates more
  2. Sitting too long
    → 10–15 min is enough
  3. Not doing regularly
    → consistency matters
  4. Using wrong tub
    → posture becomes problem

What I Tell People on Call

We get calls from all over India… Chennai, Delhi, Indore, Guwahati.

Most common question:
“Will this really help?”

My answer is always same…

If used properly, sitz bath gives real relief. But don’t expect magic in 1 day.

Give few days. Body heals slowly.

Local Real Example

One lady from Rohini, Delhi had fissure pain after delivery. She couldn’t sit properly.

Doctor told sitz bath. She started using The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.

After 4–5 days, she said pain reduced a lot.
After 10 days, almost normal.

Not miracle. Just proper use.

When to Use Sitz Bath vs Hip Bath

Use Sitz Bath if:

  • piles
  • fissure
  • after surgery
  • itching or swelling

Use Hip Bath if:

  • general relaxation
  • naturopathy
  • full pelvic soak

Final Thought

Don’t confuse both.

Sitz bath = targeted healing
Hip bath = general soaking

If you want faster relief for piles… go with sitz bath.
