Heal Better. Feel Better
A burning feeling while passing urine can make even a normal trip to the toilet feel difficult. Then the trips start happening again and again. Many people quickly search for something they can do at home for relief.
At The Heal Company, one question we hear is:
“Can I use a sitz bath for a bladder infection?”
I am Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company, along with Deepika Jain. My answer is simple: a warm sitz bath may provide external comfort, but it does not treat or cure a bladder infection.
A bladder infection is usually caused by bacteria inside the urinary tract. Warm water outside the body cannot remove those bacteria from your bladder. Medical guidance says bacterial bladder infections are commonly treated with antibiotics prescribed by a healthcare professional.
That difference is very important when deciding how to use a sitz bath.
What Is a Bladder Infection?
A bladder infection is one type of urinary tract infection, or UTI.
The urinary tract includes the kidneys, bladder, ureters and urethra. A bladder infection usually happens when bacteria enter the bladder and start multiplying.
Common symptoms may include:
- burning or pain while passing urine
- needing to urinate again and again
- a sudden urge to urinate
- discomfort in the lower abdomen
- cloudy urine
- blood in urine
- strong-smelling urine
These symptoms should not simply be ignored. A bladder infection can sometimes travel upward and become a kidney infection.
Can a Sitz Bath Cure a Bladder Infection?
No.
This is something I want to make very clear because there is plenty of confusing advice online.
A sitz bath cannot wash bacteria out of your bladder.
Think about the bladder like a water bottle with an infection inside it. Washing the outside of the bottle doesn’t clean what is inside.
The same basic idea applies here.
A sitz bath works on the external area that comes into contact with the warm water. A bladder infection happens inside the urinary tract.
So please don’t delay proper medical care because the warm water makes you temporarily feel better.
Then Why Would Someone Use a Sitz Bath?
Because comfort and treatment are two different things.
Warm-water bathing is sometimes recommended to relieve external urinary discomfort after certain medical procedures. For example, official guidance on recovery after cystoscopy says a warm bath may help relieve a burning feeling.
That does not mean warm water treats a UTI.
If the skin around the area feels uncomfortable, gentle warm-water bathing may feel soothing. It can also provide a simple way to clean the external area with water.
This is where I see a sitz bath fitting into home care: comfort and gentle external hygiene, not infection treatment.

Medical Recommendations for Bladder Infections
If you think you have a bladder infection, getting the right diagnosis matters.
Healthcare professionals may use your symptoms, medical history and urine tests to diagnose the problem. A urinalysis can check for signs such as blood and white blood cells, while a urine culture can help identify bacteria and guide treatment.
Indian national treatment guidance also points out something people often miss: not every case of painful urination is automatically a UTI. Its guidance includes urine testing/culture in the management of urinary infections.
That is another reason I don’t like the idea of self-diagnosing every burning sensation as a bladder infection.
What Actually Treats a Bacterial Bladder Infection?
When a bladder infection is caused by bacteria, a healthcare professional will often prescribe an antibiotic. The exact treatment depends on the infection and the person being treated.
Don’t start leftover antibiotics from an old illness or somebody else’s medicine.
And if a doctor gives you antibiotics, follow the instructions and complete the prescribed treatment unless your healthcare professional tells you otherwise. Stopping incorrectly can contribute to antibiotic resistance and treatment failure.
Drinking enough fluids may also help during recovery. Water is generally the best choice, although people who have medical reasons to restrict fluids should ask their healthcare professional how much they should drink.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual
For people who have been advised that warm-water bathing is suitable for them, The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual gives a simple way to take a sitz bath on a compatible Western toilet.
Our Manual model has a hand-operated pump connected to the tub.
The Heal Company Sitz Bath Tub Manual – ₹499
We also make:
The Heal Company Sitz Bath Tub Automatic – ₹999
The Automatic model provides powered water movement, while the Manual model uses the hand pump.
For bladder-infection related discomfort, I would describe our Sitz Bath Tub as a comfort and external hygiene product. I would never tell someone that buying our tub means they don’t need medical treatment.
That would be wrong.
Should You Add Antiseptic to the Water?
I would keep things simple unless your doctor has specifically told you otherwise.
Don’t randomly add strong antiseptic liquids, perfumes, oils or other products around sensitive skin.
General UTI guidance recommends keeping the genital area clean and dry and advises avoiding scented soap around the area.
Plain comfortably warm water is the simpler choice for a basic sitz bath unless a healthcare professional gives you different instructions.
And don’t make the water extremely hot. Comfortable warmth is the goal.
Everyday Habits That May Help
There are also some basic urinary-health habits worth following.
Drink enough water, don’t keep holding urine when you need to go, and give yourself time to empty your bladder properly. For women and girls, wiping from front to back after using the toilet can help reduce movement of bacteria toward the urinary tract.
People often ask about cranberry drinks too.
They are not a treatment for an infection that has already started. Current medical information says cranberry products do not treat an existing bladder infection, although research continues into whether they may help prevent some repeat infections.
When You Should Get Medical Help
Don’t keep taking sitz baths while a possible infection is getting worse.
Seek medical care if you have bladder-infection symptoms. Get prompt medical attention if symptoms include fever or chills, nausea or vomiting, or pain in your back, side or groin, because these can occur when an infection reaches the kidneys.
Pregnancy, blood in the urine, repeated UTIs, worsening symptoms and certain other medical conditions also need proper medical assessment.
Whether somebody is sitting at home in Rohini in Delhi, Jaipur, Pune, Bengaluru or Kolkata, my advice would stay the same:
Don’t confuse temporary comfort with treatment of the infection.

Why We Keep Our Claims Simple
Deepika Jain and I started The Heal Company in Delhi because we wanted to design simple devices that can support people with home care and comfort.
But “healing without medicines” should never mean refusing medicines when they are medically needed.
A bacterial bladder infection is a very good example.
Our sitz bath may support warm-water comfort and gentle external care. It cannot remove bacteria from your bladder.
I would rather explain that clearly than promise something our product cannot do.
