Heal Better. Feel Better
One question we hear at The Heal Company is:
“Should I buy a sitz bath basin that fits on my toilet, or should I just use my bathtub?”
At first both options sound almost the same. Put warm water in, sit for some time, and you’re done.
But at home, the experience can be very different.
I am Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company along with Deepika Jain. After working on sitz bath products and hearing questions from people across India, I feel the choice should depend on something very simple:
Which option will be comfortable and easy enough for you to actually use when you need it?
Let’s compare them.
What Is a Sitz Bath Basin?
A sitz bath basin is a small tub made to sit over a compatible Western toilet.
You dont have to fill your whole bathtub.
You place the basin securely on the toilet, add comfortably warm water, sit down and soak the perineal and anal area.
This type of sitz bath may be used as supportive care for problems such as:
- Piles or hemorrhoid discomfort
- Anal fissure discomfort
- Postpartum care
- Perineal hygiene
- Recovery after some anal or rectal procedures
Warm-water sitz baths are used mainly for comfort, gentle cleansing and relaxation.
They are not a cure for every medical problem.
What Do We Mean by a Bathtub Sitz Bath?
You dont always need a special basin to take a sitz bath.
A person can also use a clean bathtub with a shallow amount of comfortably warm water.
You sit in the tub so the required area is soaked.
This can work.
But there is one practical problem that people sometimes forget.
You have to get down into the bathtub and get back out again.
For a healthy person, this may be easy.
For somebody who has just had surgery, has painful piles, an anal fissure, postpartum soreness or difficulty moving, getting down into a bathtub may not feel easy at all.
That is one reason toilet-mounted sitz bath basins became useful.
Sitz Bath Basin vs Bathtub: The Main Difference
The biggest difference isnt really the water.
It is how you sit in the water.
With a bathtub, you usually have to bend down and sit inside the bath.
With a toilet-mounted basin, you sit at normal toilet height.
For many people, that makes the process much simpler.
If I was choosing a sitz bath for regular home use, this would be one of the first things I would think about.
1. Comfort
A full bathtub gives you more physical space.
But more space doesnt automatically mean more comfort.
If sitting down low or getting back up causes pain, a bathtub may become annoying very quickly.
A toilet-mounted sitz bath keeps you at a more familiar sitting height.
The shape of the basin matters too.
This is why The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual has been designed with a wide seating area and deep bowl.
If you’re going to sit for several minutes, comfort matters.
2. Amount of Water Needed
A bathtub is big.
A sitz bath basin is small.
That means a toilet-mounted basin generally needs much less water.
You are soaking only the required area instead of filling a large part of a bathtub.
For everyday home use, I like this.
Fill the basin to a safe level with comfortably warm water, remembering that the water level will rise when you sit.
3. Bathroom Space
This is a big factor in India.
Many homes simply dont have a bathtub.
Think about apartments in Rohini in Delhi, Andheri in Mumbai, Indiranagar in Bengaluru, Salt Lake in Kolkata or Gomti Nagar in Lucknow.
A Western toilet may be there, but a large bathtub may not be.
A removable sitz bath basin can make more sense in these bathrooms.
After use, you can clean it, dry it and store it.
4. Getting In and Out
This is probably one of the strongest practical reasons for choosing a toilet-mounted sitz bath basin.
If you’re already sore, lowering your body into a bathtub can be uncomfortable.
Getting back up may be even harder.
A toilet-mounted basin reduces the need to sit near floor level.
That may be useful for postpartum users, older adults and some people recovering from procedures.
If you have poor balance or restricted movement, though, get help rather than risking a fall.
5. Cleaning
Both options need to be clean.
A bathtub has a much larger surface to wash.
A sitz bath basin is smaller, so cleaning and drying it can be quicker.
But because the basin is reused for personal hygiene, dont simply empty it and put it away wet.
After use:
Empty → Clean → Rinse → Dry → Store.
Simple habit, but an important one.

What About a Sitz Bath With a Water-Flow Attachment?
This is where a dedicated sitz bath can offer something a normal bathtub usually doesnt.
Some toilet-mounted sitz bath tubs have a water-flow system.
Our The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual uses a hand squeeze pump connected through a pipe to the tub.
You squeeze the pump with your hand to create gentle water movement.
There is no electric motor in the Manual version.
For somebody who wants a simple basin plus manual water flow, I feel this gives a nice middle ground between a basic bowl and an electric system.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual
Our Manual version costs ₹499.
The product has been designed for home use with features such as:
Wide Comfort Seat – More comfortable during soaking.
Deep Bowl – Holds water around the required area.
Durable Material – Made from strong BPA-free plastic.
Fits Most Western Toilets – Designed around common Western-style toilet seats.
Manual Water Flow – A hand squeeze pump connects through one continuous pipe to the tub.
Easy to Store – Clean and dry it after use, then keep it away until your next sitz bath.
For someone who doesnt have a bathtub, or doesnt want to climb in and out of one, this can be a simple option.
What About the Automatic Version?
We also make The Heal Company Automatic Sitz Bath Tub, priced at ₹999.
This model is for people who prefer powered water circulation rather than repeatedly squeezing a hand pump.
The kit contains a plastic sitz bath tub, motor box with two connected pipes and nozzles, 12V DC adaptor, storage bag and instruction manual.
The two nozzles have different jobs.
Nozzle 1 draws water from the tub.
Nozzle 2 provides the upward water flow.
The motor keeps the water circulating.
The motor box and adaptor need to stay dry, and the supplied adaptor should be used as directed.
Manual Basin or Automatic — Which Makes More Sense?
I would keep this choice simple.
If you want a sitz bath basin that is simple, non-electric and lower priced, our Manual version at ₹499 may suit you.
If you dont want to keep squeezing a hand pump and prefer powered circulation, the Automatic version at ₹999 may be more convenient.
You dont need to buy the Automatic version just because it has more technology.
Choose according to how you plan to use it.
Is a Bathtub Still a Good Option?
Yes.
If you already have a clean bathtub, can comfortably get in and out of it, and your doctor has suggested a warm sitz bath, a bathtub may work perfectly well.
A toilet-mounted basin isnt automatically medically “better.”
Its main advantages are convenience, smaller size, less water and easier sitting for many users.
That distinction matters.
What Should You Put in the Water?
For a normal sitz bath, plain comfortably warm water is often enough.
People keep asking us whether they should add soap, Epsom salt, normal salt, essential oils or antiseptic liquids.
My opinion is: dont turn every sitz bath into a mixture of ingredients.
If your doctor wants something added, follow their instructions.
If nothing has been recommended, keeping the routine simple avoids exposing already sensitive skin to unnecessary ingredients.

Which Sitz Bath Should You Buy for Piles or Fissure?
Dont choose based only on the medical condition written on a product listing.
Look at the actual design.
For piles or fissure discomfort, I would want:
Comfortable seating, stable toilet fit, enough bowl depth, strong material and easy cleaning.
A warm-water sitz bath may support comfort, but it doesnt replace treatment when treatment is needed.
Repeated bleeding, severe pain or symptoms that aren’t improving should be checked by a doctor.
Postpartum Use
A toilet-mounted basin may also be useful after childbirth because it avoids getting all the way down into a bathtub.
But every postpartum recovery is different.
If you have stitches, an episiotomy, significant pain or another concern, follow the instructions from your maternity team.
Avoid randomly adding soap, oils or antiseptics to the water.
What I Would Choose for Home Use
If my bathroom already had a bathtub and I could easily get in and out, using it for a sitz bath could be fine.
But for regular home use, I personally prefer a dedicated toilet-mounted basin.
It uses less water.
It takes less space.
You sit at toilet height.
You can remove it when you’re finished.
And you dont need a bathtub in your home.
For many Indian bathrooms, that simply makes more sense.
A Note From Abhinav & Deepika
Deepika and I started The Heal Company in Delhi to work on practical devices that support people during home care and recovery.
We hear from people across Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow and Bengaluru. One thing these conversations have taught us is that people usually dont want complicated products.
They want something they can actually use.
That is the thinking behind The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.
Heal Better. Feel Better.
When we talk about devices that support healing without medicines, we mean supportive care. We dont mean avoiding medicines, surgery or medical treatment when they are needed.
