Heal Better. Feel Better
A customer once asked me a question I really liked:
“Abhinav, should I buy a hard plastic sitz bath or one of those foldable silicone tubs?”
At first, material may not seem like a big deal. Both can hold water. Both can fit over a toilet if designed correctly. So why should it matter?
I am Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company along with Deepika Jain. While working on our sitz bath products, I have spent a lot of time thinking about things people normally dont see in a product photo — how the tub feels when you sit, how stable it is, how easy it is to wash and what happens after using it again and again.
My personal preference for a sitz bath is a strong, rigid plastic body. But silicone and foldable designs do have some useful points.
So lets compare them properly.
Why Does Sitz Bath Material Matter?
A sitz bath looks like a simple product.
But think about what you’re actually doing.
You place it over a Western toilet. You add warm water. Then you sit over it for several minutes.
So the tub needs to hold its shape properly.
For me, a good sitz bath material should offer:
Strength, stability, comfortable seating, easy cleaning, resistance to warm water and long-term usability.
A material that looks nice in an online photo may feel completely different when you’re actually sitting on it.
What Is a Plastic Sitz Bath Tub?
A plastic sitz bath tub normally has a rigid body.
It does not need to be folded open before every use. You take it out, place it securely on a compatible toilet, add comfortably warm water and use it according to its instructions.
Our The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual uses a durable plastic construction.
One reason I like rigid plastic is very simple:
It keeps its shape.
When you’re already uncomfortable because of piles, fissure pain or postpartum soreness, I dont think you should also be worrying about a tub moving or folding while you’re setting it up.
What Is a Silicone Sitz Bath Tub?
Many products sold as silicone sitz baths are actually foldable or collapsible designs.
The biggest benefit is storage.
You can fold the basin down after use, making it easier to keep in a cupboard, luggage or a smaller bathroom.
That can be useful for people living in apartments in places such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Pune or Kolkata, where bathroom storage can be limited.
Some collapsible products also combine different materials. They may have rigid sections around the top and flexible sections that allow the bowl to collapse.
So when shopping, dont simply read “silicone” and assume the complete product is made from one material. Check the actual product construction.
Plastic vs. Silicone: Which Feels More Stable?
For me, this is one of the biggest differences.
A rigid plastic tub holds its basic shape all the time.
A collapsible tub is designed to change shape. That is its main selling point.
The ability to fold can be great for storage, but I personally prefer rigidity when the product is being used.
Whichever type you buy, the basin should sit securely on your toilet before you add water or sit down.
Toilet shapes are not all identical.
Always check compatibility.

Which Is Better for Comfort?
Material alone doesnt decide comfort.
Seat width and shape matter a lot.
A badly designed rigid plastic tub can still be uncomfortable.
A well-designed collapsible tub can have a supportive outer rim.
When we developed The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual, we focused on a wide comfort seat and deep bowl.
If someone plans to sit for around 10 or 15 minutes, I feel the seating surface should be one of the first things they check.
Dont buy only because the tub folds.
Dont buy only because the plastic looks thick.
Look at the complete design.
Plastic Sitz Bath for Warm Water
Sitz baths are normally taken with comfortably warm water rather than very hot water.
A suitable reusable sitz bath should be made for the temperatures expected during normal use.
With any product, follow its instructions.
And dont think hotter water means faster relief.
Very hot water can be uncomfortable and may hurt sensitive skin.
A sitz bath should feel comfortably warm.
Which Material Is Easier to Clean?
This matters more than many fancy features.
After every use, a reusable sitz bath needs proper care.
I like a simple routine:
Empty → Clean → Rinse → Dry → Store.
A smooth rigid plastic surface can be easy to access while cleaning because the bowl stays open.
With a collapsible tub, I would pay extra attention to folds, joints and creases.
Water can remain in hidden areas if the tub is folded before it is fully dry.
That doesnt mean a silicone tub cannot be kept clean. It simply means you need to clean and dry the complete product properly before folding and storing it.
What About Storage?
Here silicone or collapsible designs have a clear practical advantage.
A rigid plastic tub takes up the same amount of space whether you’re using it or not.
A foldable tub can become much thinner for storage.
So if you live in a small flat in Andheri, Mumbai, or have a compact bathroom in Bengaluru, this may matter to you.
At our home and office discussions, Deepika and I often come back to the same point:
There isnt one feature that is best for every person.
If storage is your biggest problem, foldability can be useful.
If rigidity is your priority, hard plastic may make more sense.
What About Durability?
This depends heavily on the quality of the actual product.
You cannot say every plastic product will last longer than every silicone product.
Cheap plastic can crack.
Poor flexible material can tear or weaken.
Joints in a collapsible product may also receive repeated movement because the tub is opened and folded again and again.
So instead of judging only by the material name, look at the thickness, construction, joints, seating area and overall build quality.
Our approach at The Heal Company has been to use a strong rigid body because we want the tub to remain simple and sturdy during regular use.
The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual
Our The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual is priced at ₹499.
It is made with a durable, BPA-free plastic body and has a wide seat and deep bowl.
The Manual model also has a hand squeeze pump.
One continuous pipe runs from the pump to the water-flow nozzle inside the tub. When you squeeze the pump, it creates gentle water movement without requiring electricity.
For me, its main benefits are:
Rigid body, wide seating area, deep bowl, simple setup and manual water flow.
It is designed to fit most standard Western toilets, but toilet dimensions can vary, so compatibility should still be checked before use.
What About The Automatic Version?
We also make The Heal Company Automatic Sitz Bath Tub, priced at ₹999.
It uses the same idea of a strong sitz bath basin but replaces repeated manual pumping with powered water circulation.
The complete kit contains:
1 Plastic Sitz Bath Tub, 1 Motor Box with 2 connected pipes and nozzles, 1 12V DC Adaptor, 1 Storage Bag and 1 Instruction Manual.
One nozzle draws water from the tub.
The second nozzle provides the upward water flow.
The motor box circulates the water between them.
The motor box and adaptor need to remain dry.
Which Material Is Better for Elderly Users?
For an elderly user, I would not choose a sitz bath based only on plastic versus silicone.
Stability matters much more.
Check that the tub sits securely on the toilet. Keep the bathroom floor dry. If the person is weak, unsteady or normally needs help getting on and off the toilet, somebody should assist them.
A rigid tub may feel more predictable because it keeps its shape, which is one reason I personally like this design.
But the user’s actual mobility and bathroom setup matter more than the word written on the material label.
Plastic or Silicone for Piles and Fissure?
The material itself doesnt treat piles or fissures.
This is a point I want to make very clear.
A warm-water sitz bath may support comfort for problems such as hemorrhoids and anal fissures.
But buying silicone instead of plastic does not create a stronger medical effect.
Choose the material based on comfort, stability, cleaning, storage and usability.
For ongoing bleeding, severe pain or symptoms that arent improving, talk to a doctor.
What About Postpartum Use?
The same thinking applies after childbirth.
A woman may prefer a stable toilet-mounted basin because she doesnt have to get down into a bathtub.
But postpartum recovery can include soreness, stitches or an episiotomy.
Follow the advice given by your maternity team.
The tub material should make the routine easier. It does not replace postpartum medical care.
Plastic vs. Silicone: My Buying Checklist
If I were buying a sitz bath today, I would check:
Does it fit my toilet?
Does it feel stable?
Is the seat wide enough?
Is the bowl deep enough?
Can I clean every part easily?
Can it dry properly?
Where will I store it?
Do I actually need a folding design?
That last question can save you from buying features you dont need.
Which One Would I Choose?
My personal choice is a strong rigid plastic sitz bath.
That is also why we chose this direction for The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.
I like a product that keeps its shape, has a wide seating area and can be cleaned without having folds in the basin.
But I wouldnt say silicone is bad.
If someone travels often or has almost no storage space, a good-quality collapsible design may be more practical for them.
The better material is the one that fits how you actually plan to use the product.

A Note From Abhinav & Deepika
Deepika and I started The Heal Company in Delhi because we wanted to build simple devices that support comfort and home care.
Customers contact us from Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
Many people ask which feature matters most.
My answer is often surprisingly simple.
A sitz bath does not need to look complicated.
It needs to fit properly, feel comfortable, stay stable and be easy to keep clean.
That thinking is behind The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual.
Heal Better. Feel Better.
When we talk about devices that support healing without medicines, we mean supportive care. We dont mean avoiding medicines, surgery or medical treatment when those are needed.
