Sitz Bath vs. Warm Bath: Which Is Better for Hemorrhoids?

By Abhinav Jain, Founder – The Heal Company

Heal Better. Feel Better

A customer once asked me a question I hear quite often:

“Abhinav, if I can sit in warm water in my bathtub, why should I buy a sitz bath tub for piles?”

It is a good question.

I am Abhinav Jain, founder of The Heal Company along with Deepika Jain. We are a Delhi-based brand, and while working on The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual, I have seen that people often think a sitz bath and a regular warm bath must give completely different results.

The answer is actually simpler.

For hemorrhoids, also called piles, both a regular warm bath and a sitz bath can help with temporary comfort. Medical guidance specifically lists both as home-care options.

The big difference is not some special healing power in the water.

It is how you take the bath, how much water you need, what part of your body you soak, and how easy it is to repeat at home.

What Are Hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the anus or in the lower rectum.

They may cause itching, pain, swelling, discomfort while sitting or bright-red bleeding during a bowel movement. Constipation, straining and sitting on the toilet for long periods can increase the pressure around this area.

This is also why treating piles isnt only about taking a bath.

Drinking enough water, eating enough fibre, avoiding constipation and not straining during bowel movements matter too.

What Is a Sitz Bath for Hemorrhoids?

A sitz bath means sitting in warm water so mainly your hips, buttocks and perineal area are in the water.

You can technically do this in a bathtub.

But today you can also use a small plastic sitz bath basin that sits over a compatible Western toilet.

You fill the basin with comfortably warm water and sit over it.

Indian public-health guidance for piles specifically includes sitting in a tub of lukewarm water for about 15–20 minutes as part of initial management.

That is one reason sitz baths are so commonly linked with piles.

What Is a Regular Warm Bath?

A warm bath means filling your bathtub with warm water and sitting or lying in it.

Your lower body is soaked, but usually much more of your body is in the water too.

A warm bath can also help ease hemorrhoid discomfort. Medical guidance does not say that you must own a special sitz bath basin to get the comfort of warm water. A regular warm bath or a sitz bath may both be used.

That distinction matters.

I dont want to tell somebody they need to buy our product because a normal warm bath “doesn’t work.” That wouldnt be fair.

So which one wins?

For medical comfort, I wouldnt claim that one automatically beats the other.

For everyday convenience, however, I personally prefer the sitz bath.

Why I Prefer a Sitz Bath for Piles

Think about someone living in an apartment in Rohini, Delhi.

They may not even have a bathtub.

Now think about another customer in Pune, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Lucknow or Kolkata who does have one.

They need to fill a large bathtub just to soak one small area of the body.

This is where a toilet-mounted sitz bath makes sense to me.

You use a smaller basin.

You use less water.

You sit at toilet height.

When you’re finished, you empty and clean a small tub.

It turns a full bathing job into a small daily routine.

Does Warm Water Shrink Hemorrhoids?

This needs to be clear.

Dont think of warm water as something that magically removes piles.

Warm water is mainly used for comfort. Medical guidance says sitz baths can help people feel better, with around 10–15 minutes in warm water commonly suggested.

Warm water may help with pain and discomfort, but hemorrhoids themselves can need other treatment.

If symptoms dont improve with home care, medical procedures may be needed.

So I would never sell our tub by saying:

“Use this and your piles will disappear.”

That is not what a sitz bath tub does.

What About After Hemorrhoid Surgery?

This is another place where warm soaking may be recommended.

After hemorrhoid removal, medical discharge guidance says a surgeon may recommend a sitz bath, while soaking in a warm bath can also help with pain.

But after surgery, your surgeon’s instructions come first.

Dont copy a routine from somebody on social media.

Your wound and recovery may be different from theirs.

The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual

This brings me to our own product.

The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual costs ₹499.

We designed it as a practical way to take a sitz bath at home without needing a full bathtub.

It is a white plastic basin designed for use with compatible Western-style toilets.

The Manual version has a wide comfort seat, deep bowl and hand-operated water-flow system.

There is one grey hand squeeze pump.

One continuous grey pipe connects the pump to the water-flow nozzle inside the basin.

You squeeze the pump by hand and get gentle water movement.

No motor. No electricity needed.

For someone taking regular sitz baths, I feel this simplicity is one of the biggest benefits.

The Heal Company Automatic Sitz Bath Tub – ₹999

We also make an Automatic version for ₹999.

The Automatic version is for someone who wants powered water circulation instead of repeatedly squeezing a hand pump.

The kit includes 1 Plastic Sitz Bath Tub, 1 Motor Box with 2 connected pipes and nozzles, 1 12V DC Adaptor, 1 Storage Bag and 1 Instruction Manual.

One nozzle draws water from the tub.

The other provides upward water flow.

The motor box and adaptor must stay dry.

I dont say Automatic is medically “better” than Manual.

The difference is mainly convenience and water circulation.

If you like simple manual control, ₹499 Manual may be enough.

If you dont want to keep squeezing the hand pump, the ₹999 Automatic may suit you better.

Don’t Make the Water Too Hot

A sitz bath is a warm-water bath, not a test of how much heat you can handle.

Hotter water does not mean faster relief.

Hospital nursing guidance describes checking the temperature and having the patient test it for comfort before using a sitz bath.

I prefer telling customers something easier:

Comfortably warm. Never painfully hot.

If it feels too hot on your skin, dont sit in it.

Keep Your Sitz Bath Clean

This part gets forgotten.

A hospital nursing manual specifically includes cleaning a portable sitz bath basin and cleaning it again according to the manufacturer’s directions after use.

So dont use it, drain it and leave it wet beside the toilet for tomorrow.

A simple routine is:

Clean → Fill → Use → Empty → Clean → Dry → Store.

Keep your hands clean too.

For me, hygiene is just as much a part of using a sitz bath as the warm water itself.

What Else Helps With Hemorrhoids?

A sitz bath is only one part of home care.

One of the biggest things you can work on is making bowel movements easier.

Eat foods with fibre.

Drink enough fluids.

Dont sit on the toilet scrolling through your phone for 20 minutes.

Dont keep pushing and straining.

These steps are included in medical guidance because constipation and straining can contribute to hemorrhoids.

A ₹499 tub cannot fix a poor bowel routine.

When Should You See a Doctor?

Please dont assume every case of rectal bleeding is piles.

Other medical conditions can also cause bleeding.

If you have rectal bleeding, or your symptoms are still there after about a week of home treatment, medical guidance recommends seeing a healthcare professional.

Get medical help sooner for heavy bleeding, dizziness or fainting.

This matters much more than choosing between a sitz bath and a bathtub.

So, Which Is Better for Hemorrhoids?

My answer is:

Both can provide the comfort of warm-water soaking.

If you already have a bathtub and find it comfortable to use, a regular warm bath can be fine.

If you want to soak only the affected lower area, use less water, sit at toilet height and avoid filling a full bathtub every time, then a toilet-mounted sitz bath is usually more practical.

That is the real advantage.

Not magic water.

Not a miracle treatment.

Just a simpler way of taking a warm-water sitz bath at home.

A Note From Abhinav & Deepika

When Deepika and I work on products for The Heal Company, we try to solve small everyday problems.

For a sitz bath, that problem is simple:

How can somebody take a warm-water soak without filling a complete bathtub every time?

That is what The Heal Company – Sitz Bath Tub Manual is designed around.

If you have questions about the product, you can call us. One of us — Abhinav Jain or Deepika Jain — will pick up your call, so feel free to call and clear your questions.
